Why I Love My Dad: My Home in the Palm of Your Hand

Editor's note: The following is one of the third place entries in the "Why I Love My Dad" series. Click here for more >

I made my home in the palm of your hand. I wrote my name along your heart vein. There are invisible threads that tether me to you no matter how far I go: China, Fort Collins, the mountains and all the spaces in between. Threads I can trace to remember sweet memories, words of wisdom, and moments of gratitude. They are threads I can trace back to the man that captured me in warmth the day I was brought forth.

Why I Love My Dad: Thankful for the Past and Present

Editor's note: The following is one of the third place entries in the "Why I Love My Dad" series. Click here for more >

Daddy,

I was searching for a different photo, but I am so grateful I found this one. This is how I longed to remember you and me. I remember you being as handsome as Tom Cruise, smiling and strong. You were my hero who had me on top of the world, safe, and on a great adventure.

Why I Love My Dad: United in Christ

Editor's note: The following is one of the third place entries in the "Why I Love My Dad" series. Click here for more >

Growing up I was daddy’s little girl. My father was a good dad in many ways and he meant well, but we were not Christians. In fact we did not even believe in God, never went to church, and never read the Bible. In attempting to raise me well, my dad was too strict. There was a lot of harsh discipline in trying to make me the “perfect” daughter.

Why I Love My Dad: Unconditional Love

Editor's note: The following is one of the third-place entries in the "Why I Love My Dad" series. Click here for more >

My dad is 83 years old this year! He and my mom moved in with me a few months ago to live out the rest of their days on this Earth. I am reminded daily of what a wonderful Dad he has always been to me and the short time left I have with him.

Why I Love My Dad: Jack Frederick

Editor's note: The following is one of the third place entries in the "Why I Love My Dad" series. Click here for more >

My dad, Jack Frederick, is one-of-a-kind! He is a friend to everyone, a hero for the fatherless, a baby whisperer, a photography wizard, a rocket scientist, a papa extraordinaire and, most importantly, a man who fears the Lord.

Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!” -- Philippians 4:4

This scripture is one of the first I learned as a child. I would recite it with a sense of indignation.

Why I Love My Dad: The Real Superman

Editor's note: The following is the second place winner in the "Why I Love My Dad" series. Click here for more >

I have my father's name, Michael Hidalgo. I am Michael Hidalgo II but not a junior since I have a different middle name. I could not ask for a better man to share a name. Showing me the power of God before I even knew what it was, my father has always led his household honorably. He feared God and worked hard to provide my sister and I with what he never had, including living in a good neighborhood and going to good schools. It was amazing having a father who we knew we could love and who loved us.
